What it changes
Commonly, applicants under roughly 60 years old who request amounts within a carrier's stated thresholds, with no serious health problems and no tobacco use during the past 12 months or longer. Recent bloodwork from a physician visit can substitute for a new exam at some carriers.
Who tends to qualify
Your date of birth, gender, coverage amount, how long you want coverage, your health in your own words, and current tobacco use. This takes roughly one minute.
Income years. Most financial advisors suggest covering 10 to 20 years of earnings; the exact timeframe depends on how many years your dependents would benefit from support. Families in Palo Alto with young children often select a longer period since costs for child care, housing, and education tend to peak at the same time.
